As part of our ongoing commitment to the Good Business Charter principles – which has so far seen us become a Real Living Wage employer and revamp our benefits package to include pioneering miscarriage and fertility leave – Stroud Resourcing are delighted to announce that we are now accredited as a carbon neutral business!
For a small recruitment business like Stroud, our carbon footprint was much smaller than many others, and we were already attempting to reduce our paper usage and recycling our office waste. Nonetheless, we wanted to go further with this, so we started researching ways to offset the carbon we do produce.
That’s how we found Carbon Footprint Inc, whose handy calculator showed us exactly how much CO2 we were producing each year. From there it was as simple as deciding what activities we could undertake, which would capture carbon from the atmosphere equal to our output.
We decided tree planting in our region would be a good option, as a single tree can recapture about a tonne of atmospheric carbon over its lifetime, but Carbon Footprint also run some other great schemes you can get involved in. These range from providing developing communities with the equipment to generate solar power or clean drinking water, to biomass recycling, to helping fund wind and hydro power plant construction. However, you want to get involved, you can!
This August, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a report declaring the climate emergency a ‘code red’ for humanity. It can sometimes seem overwhelming to think about, but we can all do our part, and we think carbon neutrality targets are a great place for many businesses to get started on reducing their impact!
