As a small, independent healthcare recruitment company, community has always been at the heart of what we do. Every day, we see first-hand the dedication of healthcare professionals who give so much of themselves to support others. That’s why we’re proud to introduce a new charity initiative designed to give back in a way that feels meaningful, sustainable, and genuinely inclusive.
A Year-Round Commitment, Split by the Seasons
Rather than focusing our efforts on a single fundraising push, our charity initiative is structured across the year into four quarterly phases: spring, summer, autumn and winter. Each quarter, we’ll support a different York-based charity or cause, aligning our donations with seasonal needs wherever possible.
By planning the entire year in advance, we’re able to keep charitable giving consistent, achievable and embedded into how we work, rather than something revisited only when time allows. This approach helps us maintain momentum throughout the year while giving our team something positive to rally around every few months, keeping charitable giving an ongoing conversation rather than a one-off campaign.
Launching with Our Spring Initiative: The “Fresh Start” Drive
We’re delighted to begin this journey with our Spring initiative, the “Fresh Start” Drive. Spring is synonymous with renewal, growth and new beginnings, making it the perfect time to support individuals and families across York who are starting again.
For this first quarter, we’re collecting toiletries and household essentials to support local shelters and families transitioning out of homelessness. These everyday items are often overlooked, yet they play a vital role in restoring dignity, comfort and stability during what can be an incredibly challenging time.
If you’re local to York, we’d love for you to get involved. Donations can be dropped off at our York office:
Stroud Resourcing | Wizu | East Coast House, 25 Skeldergate, York, YO1 6DH
Suggested donations include:
• Shampoo, conditioner, soap and body wash
• Toothpaste, toothbrushes and deodorant
• Sanitary products and baby wipes
To ensure donations are safe and appropriate, we kindly ask that contributions do not include cleaning products, medications (such as paracetamol or ibuprofen) or razors.
The deadline for donations is 1st March.
The Reality for Small Businesses
Supporting charities is something many businesses want to do more of, but for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), it can come with real challenges, not only financially, but in maintaining momentum over time.
Unlike large corporations, small businesses often operate with tighter margins and greater financial pressure. Rising costs, economic uncertainty, and the responsibility of supporting employees and clients mean that committing to regular cash donations or ongoing initiatives can sometimes feel overwhelming, even when the intention is there.
We believe that shouldn’t mean small businesses are excluded from making a difference.
Why We’re Focusing on Physical Donations
Instead of centring our initiative around financial contributions, we’ve chosen to prioritise physical donations. Depending on the season and charity, this may include items such as clothing, food, toiletries, medical supplies or children’s essentials.
This approach brings several important benefits:
It also opens the door for friends and family of our team to get involved, extending the impact beyond our business and into the wider York community. Most importantly, it’s an approach we know we can realistically sustain quarter after quarter.
Creating a Shared Effort
One of the most rewarding aspects of this initiative is how it brings people together. From discussing which items are most needed to seeing donation points fill up over the course of a quarter, the focus naturally shifts from individual giving to collective impact.
Ultimately, it’s not about how much any one person contributes, but about what we can achieve together.
A Call to Other Businesses
We know we’re not alone in facing the challenge of balancing business realities with a desire to give back. That’s why we hope our approach encourages other businesses to consider initiatives that work for them.
Charitable support doesn’t have to rely on large budgets or headline-grabbing donations. With creativity, collaboration and a community-first mindset, small businesses can make a meaningful difference in ways that are sustainable and authentic.
Looking Ahead
As this initiative grows, we’ll be sharing updates each quarter, highlighting the causes we’re supporting across York and the impact made through our collective efforts.
We’re excited to see how this evolves and proud to take another step towards supporting the communities that support us.
Because giving back isn’t about size, it’s about intention, consistency and coming together.
