In the spotlight: Stress Awareness Month with Eleanor

This month is national stress awareness month, which has only become more paramount during the COVID-19 pandemic. Stress can appear in many forms including headaches, lack of sleep and chest pain, which can really take its toll. There is no single cause for stress – every individual has their own contributing factors and as such, there is no single solution. It is so important to find something that works for you, to help take your mind off day-to-day stresses and find something you enjoy.

For me personally, there are 2 main activities that relieve my stress levels which are baking exceptionally yummy treats or walking around York (trying to burn the cakes off!). Baking is a great way to focus on something positive for a few hours either by yourself or with family - researching the recipes, combining all the ingredients and decorating the final result. It is a fantastic way to help bring a bit of happiness into other people’s lives too and, now that we can socialise outdoors with rule of 6, share them with friends and family. In York, the options for weekly wanders are endless. I love going out in the morning with no particular destination in mind, exploring the local scenery and the independent businesses on the way.

Combating stress has never been more important, so let’s start the conversation. Meeting with a friend can really help in providing a different perspective on your current situation, spend time with people you enjoy and focus on the good.
